This last Friday, I went to see The Boy. I was actually very excited to see this movie because 1.) I loved the trailer and 2.) it's a horror. This is the first horror I can think of with this story and I can't get enough of new cinematic ideas . The trailer shows the audience that an older couple has a boy-doll and is looking for a babysitter. The baby sitter chosen is then explained the rules of the house (she "house sits" as well, since the two adults obviously leave). She is given specific instructions on how to care for doll and what she should and should not do.
The trailers next scene shows the babysitter defying all the rules that were given to her, which not surprisingly leads to bad things. The baby sitter is shown purposely disobeying all the rules, and scary things start to occur with this "toy doll".
I purposely went to see this movie during the 10:30 pm showing because I feel that entering a movie theater in the night already presets the attitude one has when watching a horror; which did not occur in this case. I was very disappointed in this movie, and I personally will not be watching it again for a very, very long time. It was a little boring for my taste and the actual movie did not live up to the scary trailer it had. The action takes a while to start, and my sister slept through the first half. I feel that all the The Boy had to offer was jump scares and I didn't even see anyone in my theater jump. The trailer is very misleading, in my opinion, and is not as scary as it seems to be.
I had wondered at first, but now I am certain I know why The Boy is Pg-13; its not scary... Any child can go.
Aside from all the negative comments, I am glad I went to see this movie because I liked the trailer, BUT this one might be a rental.
$31.50 for 3 tickets to The Boy is $31.50 too much. Watch the trailer below and decide for yourself!:)
If anything, I'll go as far as advising against wasting your money! Save your $30! Wait for Redbox!!
